This weeks theme is "Fall", I happen to love fall I just don't happen to live in a place where fall really comes or last long no beautiful trees with leaves of every color. Last week it was in the mid to upper 90's doesn't really scream fall!

Even though fall hasn't really come to visit me, that doesn't mean I can't enjoy one of my favorite fall treats starbucks pumpkin spice latte!

BTW I need to totally brag on my friend Cody, he's the guy I work with doing my photo shoot for the newspaper. Thats not what I'm bragging about... this guy here just beat cancer thats right my friends a month ago he was cancerous... and today he's clean. The power of prayer and early detection is amazing!

This weeks theme is "stranger", I was a little suck on this until I ran into a few ducks. I like ducks they are funny little animals some will come running up to you and then some will run away {unless you have bread} I however was not preparired for the ducks so they took off I was a stranger.

So after posting last night in a fog of migraine meds and well a migraine I made a boo boo... oops this weeks theme is "On the streets" in my confusion I don't have a photo to fit the right theme... I'm off to get something new!

Here it is "on the street" soon like in two weeks this will no longer be my street, so for the last almost seven years the place where I called home will someone else's home. It's weird I wont lie I'm excited to be in a new bigger home but slightly sad at the same time but it'll all be good... if I can make it threw the move! :) so this is possibly the last shot i'll take of this street.

This weeks theme is "Brave," so many things come to mind when I think of being brave partly because I also think it can be slightly dangerous. Nothing in life goes as planned right, you can do everything in your power and make all the right choices but really you have no control! We learned that the hard way three years ago when our brave son, Jake was born. I had a lovely pregnancy I felt really great and was getting around well all looked good. I ate super healthy took really good care of my self did everything I could, but it didn't matter. Jake was born 3 weeks early which in todays world is really good, however he had issues that no one was prepared for. I remember going into NICU and seeing my new baby for the second time covered in tubes and wires and the doctor going over chest x-rays with us, and he then told us we might not take him home. I stopped listening, he was wrong I just knew it Jake was going to be my brave little boy! After two collapsed lungs and a double lung infection which they still don't know what caused it or why it happened we left the hospital 20 days later with our son, by Gods will!

He is our brave and fearless child, and we have God to thank for that so standing at 3ft. 2in he has no problem climbing monkey bars that are 6.5ft tall!

I feel beyond accomplished for making it to 33 weeks! This week theme is "ODD"....? Yeah I sort of questioned this for days... I even googled it. I'm stumped but I thought whats odd to one might just be funny to someone else? And without going to the mall and randomly finding interesting people to take photos of unknowingly {as my sister suggested} I thought I would make my silly stewy odd! I do believe he's one of the most proper dogs and its beyond fitting that he would wear a tie... I'm even thinking of making him his own bow ties!

This weeks theme is "Nostalgia," don't get me wrong I LOVE my technology but there are things that I miss very much like hand written notes, not just a quick text message sent while you were multitasking. I always tell my friends all you have to do is send me a simple note it'll make my day... or even week. I like getting mail with stamps that someone took the extra time to write out and mail. I make it a point to send notes to my friends often, and I might be one of the few but I love the write thank you cards!

Week 28, woohoo! This weeks theme is summer, and oh how I love summer... however this summer has been less then pleasant! It has over been 100 degrees just about every day since the end of May, we have had zero rain and so that means our flat landscape is also dried out and dead or is burnt from a fire! And with it being this hot we often have impromptu sprinkler play time, but not until after 7 when it's only 98 outside!

Week 24, this weeks theme is "family and since I sort of posted a family photo last week so I thought I would post more about my whole family! I love family I love being around family and knowing that my kids have family to grow up with! I'm thankful for my family, for Josh, Lily and Jake but also to my mom and step dad. I'm thankful for my grandparents, aunt and uncle, sister,brother and cousins.

At every family event I'm expected to bring my camera and tripod grandma's orders after all! She loves having the big group shots, this was from a family reunion for one part of her family.

This is my husbands dad's side of the family, even with all this family we are still missing a lot in both photos!

We are on week 23, there are 13 other photographers joining me this week. Our theme is "Home", I love it. Home is not really the house you live in but the place you feel safe in and where you can let your guard down. You could live in the same house for 30 years or move every year to a different house... but a house is just that.... a home is full of love! We are about to list our house and look for a new one, but my home will always be with these people that I love. So while I edit my photo for this post and write this up I'll be listening to Edward Sharpe & the magnetic zero's "Home"
It's one of my all time favorite songs it can put me in the best mood no matter what. :)

So my boy loves for things to be in a row, and I'm loving the age he's at. Very playful and he's really acting things out. So like most nights he's playing trains, he had all 18 in a row and 5 in the train house.

Week 21 wow I'm beyond impressed with my self, not to brag but as much as I've had going on I'm happy to say I have yet to miss a week {knock on wood} This weeks theme is "daily life", we are in full blown summer mode already we've already made trips to the pool and have had cook outs. With the exception of a few early morning doctor appointments the kids and I have slept in just a little bit later and is SOOO nice, which mean we have also been staying up just a little later. It's terribly hot here and with no rain its VERY dry so we try to stay inside in the middle of the day and after dinner we go out for a few hours taking walks, doing yard work, bathing the dogs, and just hanging out.

These are just a few photos from wednesday night my husband went off to band practice so the kids and I took over... the wind was blowing a good 20mph which is always fun :)I love these kids more than they will ever know... this is our daily life hanging out have fun when it cools off outside!

This weeks theme is landscape, I wish I lived somewhere that wasn't flat or that had stunning landscape but I just don't and I still manage! This is one of my favorite places to take seniors we tend to climb to the top of the old train trestle take a few up there and then come back down. And in honor of having my last senior of 2011 wrap up this week I found it very fitting!

So this weeks theme is favorite things. This is so very hard for me because I have many many simple things that bring me joy each and every day. The children saying the blessing for dinner, and night time prayers I love their sweet hearts. The random hugs I get for no reason hearing my favorite song on the radio or the candy bar my husband thought to pick up for me at the store!

This has to be one of my favorites, sleeping children pure and joyful and calm! Each night Jake climes in bed with us its normal early in the morning and when we get up he's so peaceful and it makes it really hard to get out of bed. This kid is crazy active and so to see him still is amazing.

Geez paper let me tell you the truth I thought fun I'll do some origami so I cut 56 7x7cm squares folded about half of them and then try to make this amazing star that I saw on youtube... didn't work out in my favor. I'm not that awesome and so scratch that... while I'm sitting working I look down DUH simple enough my Starbucks paper cup! I often have my coffee friend with me while I work.

So every week I get more and more excited that I've made it another week! This weeks theme is "Hands" what a fun theme and wow all the things you can do with hands! My sweet little loves found small cans at target, and although they never get soda they were being so good and you should have a special treat every now and then. Right? I love these dirty little hands they had been playing outside for a few hours before I got them to work with me!And one extra because they were being so super sweet!

So week 13! PHEW so this weeks theme is "shadows" this is another one that could go many ways and I can't wait to see what everyone does with this, and of corse leave lots of blog love as I view the other 21 lovely ladies photos! Heres the back story, my husband has MS another struggle that we'll battle and pray about! He had another MRI tuesday, thankfully he works at the hospital and is only a few floors away. At the same time he's know's everyone and so after the MRI they offer it up for him to see. He tells me there are more spots. I'm worried and very much want to go to the see the neurologist with him but I'm shooting realtors for the Lubbock Magazine and my thursday is crazy busy. So I pray and God made it happen my 10am moved to 9:30 and she was such a lovely lady and every easy to photography, my 11 am cancelled so I was free! I made it, only to hear that in fact he does have two new spots or "shadows" on the right side of his brain :( but on the flip side the shadows on the left side of the brain from last year are getting better. THANK YOU GOD! I really wanted to photograph the MRI scan but I didn't want to be rude towards the doctor or interfere in the important information he was giving us. And its gosh darn hard to create shadows in a room without windows and only a few minutes!

Phew what a week! I'm so thankful for fridays! And without fail this week also has a theme! So for week twelve our theme is reflection. I had to ask my group for a little motivation, because I could take this either way simple or be down right depressing and sad. I picked the simple not to much in depth.

You see every day I see a photo of my mom and me on my fridge I was 15 my mom had hair in this photo :) she had already been fighting cancer for 3 years. Four years later I lost my mom, and I'm still broken hearted I make it through each day, but the hurt never goes away. I pray as hard as I can every day but I think when you lose a parent that you didn't have enough time with and they were your best friend it'll hurt no matter what. I'm beyond thankful for the life I have and the beautiful children I get to chase after each day but while I'm running after them being the dino I often feel alone. This week I happened to be photographing one of my husbands lovely limited acoustic guitars. When I checked the image I saw my reflection, crap... I didn't mean for that to happen dumb flash agh! WAIT this is what I needed a reflection in something that is now a very much a part of my life, my husbands guitar. I'm so thankful that he has the talent that he does it often clams me down and makes me happy! Very happy!

So since my workshop I have been in love with the seamless paper, I've got all my stuff in and I ended up getting more paper than my orginal plan! Just to play around this morning my little one agreed to model with no bribes. I got a full good 30 min of him just being him... CUTE! The only thing was he insisted on having a prop... a chair or ball or something! I got a few close up I haven't cleaned them all up yet since there is very little editing.

I'm in love with this paper! :)

I picked to try my hand with my new alien bee outside. So should have done it yesterday when we had no winds... lol lets just say I was holding on to that light with all I had and at some points I felt I at any moment I might fly off like Marry Poppins. Oddly enough I dont think the winds ever gusted higher than 10mph, and thats rather mild for west Texas! So these have slight PP'ing on them, I hardly did a thing.

heres my not so fancy but very scary light set up, I shot at 3:30 and the sun is behind her I like the look I got and I'm excited to play more with it on session now all I need is for them to ship the portable power!

So the journey continues, we've made it to week 7 WOOHOO! So this week it is 18 photographers that help make up the circle of images all with the same theme this weeks is "Textures". I had many ideas for texture, like the whiskers and fur on the dogs. Different textures that we touch everyday, but I thought I would go with an over lay texture! Last weekend I was at the Bloom Face to Face work, and I LOVED meeting everyone and the vibe was awesome! We had an amazing day of shooting with the wonderful Brenda & Kristy and then sunday they both sat down with everyone and showed off their editing tricks! Brenda showed me how she uses texture overlays and let me say I feel very special! So in honor of the amazing workshop and all the fabulous women there here is my texture image. And a huge thanks to Jules for sharing Mr. B!

Week 6 of 52| Lubbock, Tx Photographer

So this week our theme was headless, a shot from the bottom up that told a story! I happened to get two shots that would have worked but I just couldn't pick. My very talented daughter totally rocked it for me! She's quite the talented ballerina and can stand on her toes without any support.

So if you don't know by now I'm joining 19 other photographers in a weekly photo project! All these women I've met threw the The Bloom Forumit's an awesome resource and they are all so supportive and awesome!

So this week, week 5 is FOOD! Since sunday was the super-bowl also known as stuff your face day in my house I thought what better day to photograph food. I shot everything I made that day, stuffed jalapenos, potatoes and steaks. But I thought I would share my favorite part the peppers, I loved them so much that I ate umm almost all of them I had to share a few!

Phew its was a CRAZY week, with this weird storm and all. So Tuesdays are my work days for the local news paper, but when we get a crazy snow storm and the temp is 1◦ with a -10 wind chill! Schools get closed and my week get thrown into a loop, and then hour delays the rest of the week you would have thought with extra time you think I would have had plenty of time to capture my sweet faces that I love. Well, WRONG every time I tried my lovely two year old refused so now I sit here wondering what I can post for the faces I love. So I thought I would share some older ones I hope no one minds my off week.

*** added, since I've lost my mom, her parents are even more special too me. Not only where they the only real grandparents I grew up with but just having my grandma call me each week makes me feel better!

So this weeks challenge is black and white! I don't do a ton of black and white I'd rather have color and lots of it! :) I'm so excited for all these challenges to make me do thing I normally wouldn't do. I thought the dogs would make great subjects! Problem is I cant pick which one I like more so I've got it down to 3, you tell me which one you like best! :)

I'm so excited to tell you about my new project for the year! 20 other photographers and I are doing our project together to not only treat all of our blog readers, but to keep us honest and on track. We have a list of 52 “ideas or themes” that we will shoot each week for the year. And since we're getting started a week late, I'll roll it over into the first week of 2012. I will take a picture of our theme for the week, the way I interpret it, and post it on my site. Then under my post, I will link another photographer who is part of the project for you to see her interpretation of the theme. This week’s assignment was a self portrait. These self portrait pictures will allow you to see the photographers who are doing this project and put a face to a name. Self portraits are definitely not everyone's forte, but it forces us to be on the other side of the camera and remind ourselves what our clients go through!

So when Mrs. Rogers ask me to take her family photos I was excited and happy not only to do it because she is such a wonderful lady but because I wanted to meet all her children too! After all she does know my Lily really well she’s been her teacher for the past two years!

Mrs. Rogers was like most moms worried that her children wouldn’t last long or even really want their photos taken, but they did AWESOME! I often tell parents you might be shocked kids seem to do better for other people than they do for you, plus I make a total goof ball out of my self just to get them to smile at me and warm up to me quickly! Thank you for letting me meet your family, all of them I had a wonderful time!

By color I mean markers! I was about to head out for a shoot the other day and my son was riding his bike and he was coloring inside and had a bit of gray marker on his upper lip! I ran back inside got the marker and my camera out of my car, and finished what he started. I thought it was hilarious and he thought I was a nut! I can’t draw on one child and not the other! Lily asked for heart glasses, and then I added the Harry Potter mark since she had been watching it all day long!

Photo over load, and this is really narrowing it down! I Love this family they were such a blessing to photograph! I wont lie I was a bit worried with a large group but they did amazing! No one complained all the men where excited to be there and happy to do whatever I asked and the kids had a great time. So this was the perfect shoot minus the wind gust but its west Texas what are ya gonna do!

I traveled to midland to shoot my sister in laws family, but before we could get to their shoot I got all the grandkids together for my mother in law. I think the silly bug bit these kids! I had fun walking around downtown Midland its so much different from Lubbock. It seems so much more modern and cleaner, and I love the all glass buildings!

So Monday night Jake was being crazy and jumping around and he fell into the coffee table! His eyebrow and eye swelled up and it was super sad! The next morning it was dark and still really swollen. Today it looks like he has purple/blueish eye shadow on and its not so swollen. I had to photograph it because well he's my tough guy who cried for a second when it happened and only wanted one kiss. But on a hang nail he'll cry all day and I'll have to give a million kisses!

So some do some don't and some only offer you images on a disc! I do sell my disc and some clients think its high so let me explain my self!

I am not a cheap 100 photographer, I strive for MUCH higher quality and I pay attention to details. Also your images are edited with my time and knowllege of photoshop to give you the best image. Sometimes you might not know that I've taken more than one shot of the same "pose" and say the older child is looking and has a great smile while the younger one is not. But a few images later the younger one has a wonderful smile... so I preform a head swap! That is the image you see in your gallery!

I love to offer my client HIGH quality prints and products, and I really think you get what you pay for! My disc of images cost what they do because I give you a copy right on the cd case so you don't have to worry about keeping up with it and YOU can make your own prints in whatever sizes and as many as you like. Heres something clients don't know they get until it comes, a lovely case made just for you! These cases are fabulous and look amazing and something you want to show off!

So if you haven't yet you MUST check out The Bloom Forum! This month the creative challenge was to photograph your SELF. Something I hate I just feel weird being on the other end by my self without anyone else in the shot with me.... its odd! So this is ME, a photo of me and my mom a few months before she died on our last trip to New Orleans! A family photo from last year taken by a good friend (Rob). My favorite cooking apron.My bible, my ms bibles :) and lots and lots of magazines, thats my vice I buy 10-20 a week crazy I know but I just feed off of them! But in this photo the most important thing I wanted to so was my tattoo, its a reminder everyday that life is WAY to short, its a butterfly with two and a half pink ribbons. The larger ribbon for my mom and her six year battle with breast cancer to which she lost, and the smaller one for my grandmother who was diagnosed a year after my mom, her daughter died! And the half ribbon is a prayer for all the other women in my family and my self.

And a huge thanks to Kent Sparkman from coming over and standing on chairs for me!

I think it was a year ago when I was a "bloomie" Kristy and Brenda started the Bloom Workshops I was so excited to be able to meet these wonderful women and other wonderful photographers in their workshop. I was a part of Bloom & Create, they really pushed us in leaving our comfort zones. I was so sad when it was over I wanted MORE and now here it is a Bloom Forum!

2010 Race for the cure⤷⤷Lubbock Photographer

This weekend was the 16th annual Race For the Cure! Komen is a WONDERFUL organization, 75 cents of every dollar stay here in Lubbock. They said over 8,000 people came out for the race WOOHOO!

I didn't think about it until we were about to leave the race, this was my 11th race, two of which I was signed up for but couldn't make it. Breast cancer is a big deal for me and my family, we lost my mom to this cancer! She fought a long hard battle and after a little over six year with stage four, the Lord took her from us. Although we were all very sad and still miss her to this day we were all thankful she was no longer in pain.

A little after a year of my mom's death my grandmother, her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was caught in a very early stage and no chemo was required. We all learned so much from my mom, and I pray no one else in our family will lose their life to this cancer.

Look at him, I dont know this dog but isn't he CUTE, Love the mohawk and I love how his owners got them race day shirts!
For the nice people who asked me to take their photo, and then their camera was out of memory, I hope you get this :)

I had the joy of meeting him when he was a day old in the hospital and I get to see him every few months and I can't tell you just how much I love him! He's so squishy and perfect and just a sweet baby! So when they came up for a short day trip I had to document those legs!

So I gave up on my 365 project! Maybe next year? LOL

I've had a lot of great sessions with adorable families and the sweetest kids but my time to sit on the computer to edit has been thin so my blogging time is even worse! And I have a few good reasons! So let me give you a sort run down but first a business story!

When I decided to start my own photography business, I was conflicted on the name I used for my business because my last name is Setzler and I've learned in the last six years of marriage people just can't pronounce it the right way (and its said just how it's spelled SET-Z-LER) And I also figured clients might have a hard time spelling it or doing the best thing ever sharing my info! So my first thought was to keep my name but on cards maybe call my self MS Photography, but then I thought it was a bad idea. When I hear MS I think of Multiple Sclerosis, and well I would have hated to be pulled up when people are searching for something like that and I didn't want people to associate me with that, and not a children's photographer. So I stuck with my tricky last name!

Fast forward to this summer! It was a crazy summer lots of big birthday bashes I was throwing friends moving, and just crazy kids! My husband Josh has always been a big supporter of what I do and I'm very thankful for him! I did a 365 photo of him in his band. They had played a show out at the lake in a big bike fest and it was 107 outside that day. Josh came home worn out and he was having trouble walking and his left hand lost a lot of function. He had been seeing a sports medicine therapist for some of these issues, and everyone was up in the air with what was going on with him. A month later 1 week to the date after Jake's second birthday josh had a terrible limp, and was just tired from short walking trips.

July 16th, Josh walked him self into the ER and he was swarmed with doctors, and a lot of neurologist! One week after staying in the hospital and 3 or 4 MRI's and a stroke watch his fabulous neurologist suggest a lumbar puncture even though he knew what was going on with Josh he wanted to be sure, Josh left the hospital with a diagnoses of MS... yea what are the odds. I read all the books I could buy at b&n and learned a ton! Josh is now walking almost normal unless he gets really tired, he eats a gluten free diet, low in sugar, low in saturated fats, and about 20 vitamins a day.

I would say at this point we are doing much better we have gotten into a normal routine. He's back at work and I'm very proud of him for how strong he is! He has always supported me so I'm doing my best to support him, finding all the things that make it easier on him, and pushing him into physical therapy! I'm very amazed at how far he's come, and I'm thankful that we have the Faith that we do. God will get you through anything and it's proof looking at my family!

Lily's school was so kind to put on a tea party for the mom's for mothers day, the kids all sang and giggled. Her teacher was wonderful enough to make little books that had photos from the year in them and well talk about water works I did all I could not to cry it was so sweet and to watch my baby grow is amazing!

The miss hap. My lovely son took my card reader and tried to help me out? By shoving the side of my cf card into the reader he broke prongs and bent them and agh so I had to get a new one! Friday also was a big day for me, I sold my very first DSLR my rebel xti. I'm happy to have sold it because later that day I bought a 17-40mm and I had a 5DM2 on it's way so I really didn't need it!
